About the Hungarian emblems, insignias and colours in WoT
Hello everyone, I’m Karika, a Hungarian military historian, responsible for some of the Hungarian related articles from Silentstalker's FTR – For The Record website.
Today, we take a look at how the probably soon to be implemented Hungarian Toldi III light and Turán III prototípus medium tanks should look like in WoT, as upcoming premium vehicles of the German tech tree. Because, as some of you have noticed, they are slightly wrong right now.
One of the first thing you might notice on the HD renders from the links above is that those tanks are painted with the standard German grey colour and have the Balkenkreuz - the emblem of the Wehrmacht - on the turret sides and on the hull front. Some of you even took objection to it on various forums and social networks, rightly.
Why is this a problem? As you might guessed, these things are completely unhistorical, not even a single Hungarian-made tank recieved German paintings or insignias, all of them used original Hungarian ones. And why not make a tank as historical as possible if it would not require too much effort?
We do not know yet if these are the finalized versions of the tank models (probably not), but if they are, it would be a bit lazy from the developers to use the basic German settings, don’t you think? There already are tanks in the game which have different colours or emblems from their original tech tree siblings. Such as the German Panther/M10 with its American colours and white stars or the green T-55A with the East German coat of arms or the Type 64 with the Taiwanese ’blue sky with a white sun’ emblem. Therefore such mechanism, which allows to have different visuals from the rest of the tree already exists in the game. Probably it would not be hard to use this method on the Toldi and the Turán.
But how the Hungarian tanks should be look like then exactly? Let’s see:
The two problems with them are that they are not Hungarian and they are not on the right positions on the tanks on the renders above.
However, because the Royal Hungarian Army used at least 9 different emblem variants on its armoured vehicles between 1938 and 1945, choosing the right one is a bit tricky. To simplify this topic, let’s just take a look only on the two major and most widely used ones during the Second World War.
This one:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cc/Insignia_Hungary_Army_History_%28from_1941_spring%29.svg
has entered into service right after the Hungarian occupation of the Yugoslav territories have started in the Spring of 1941. This was the first attempt to create a unified, official emblem for every units of the Armoured Divisions. According to the original order, this emblem had to be painted on both sides and on the top of the turret, and on the front and the back of the hull on every armoured vehicles with 500 mm or 350 mm width, as you can see on these pictures:
Nonetheless, soon after its introduction, the drivers of the Csaba armoured cars, the Toldi light tanks and Nimród self-propelled autocannons started to criticize this insignia, because if you take a look at the picture above, you’ll see that the driver is sitting right behind that big bright cross, making him feel like he’s sitting behind a huge crosshair, which shouts „Shoot here!”. This did not really improve the morale of the troops, so along with other reasons, the Hungarian Military Leaderboard soon decided to change this emblem.
On 16th November 1942, an order was given out to change, unify every emblem of the armoured vehicles with the emblem of the Hungarian Air Force, a white cross in a black square. This new insignia had to be painted on the hull sides and on the engine decks in a fitting size of the given space according to three different scaling. But it was not required to be painted on the turrets of the vehicles.
However, it was unofficially forbidden to paint it on the front of the tank, thanks to the previous experiences.
This emblem was in use until the end of the WWII.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Roundel_of_the_Hungarian_Air_Force_%281942-1945%29.svg
Therefore, since the prototype vehicles of the Toldi III and the Turán III were finished after the Autumn of 1942, the logical emblem for them is the latter white-black one in the game. The positions should be also correspond to the original ones, as you can see here:
An emblem on the sides of the hull below the turret, and maybe (an optional) one on the engine deck. The front emblems must be removed from the in-game models in this case.
Base colour
The solution of this issue is simple. WG only have to paint the Hungarian tanks to their factory green colour, something like this:
Camouflage
There are even interesting camo patterns for these Hungarian premium tanks, so they don’t even have to rely on the German ones here either. I’ll just show a few of them here.
Conclusion
The developers of Wargaming.net could easily make the Hungarian tanks, along with even the Swiss Panzer 58, upcoming German tier 8 premium tank and the other upcoming tanks of the minor tank producing countries more historical, authentic or from a point of view, even prettier if they take the trouble, and model the emblems and the colours of these vehicles right. Let’s hope they’ll do it.

25.9.2015 Q&A
First, a little about the Chieftain. According to Russian leakers, the situation is as follows - it's possible the Chieftain will not replace the FV215b at all, it will be replaced by "Super Conqueror" (which is a combination of the new Conqueror turret Listy found in archives and additional spaced armor plating). Chieftain might come as an alternative tier 10 (something like Object 140/430/T-62A) and might an entire alternative branch pulled towards it (according to Listy, such a minibranch is buildable from Chieftain prototypes so this is not impossible), but the plans for 2016 are already finalized so the Chieftain branch would only come in 2017. The problem with this approach is that without ANOTHER new tier 10, the 2017 Chieftain minibranch would not do well (as in, if a branch doesn't have a new tier 10 with it, noone grinds it). In any case this will be decided within days.
- it's not possible to introduce the new sounds in 10.0: they will be running on an entirely new sound engine
- WG is strongly considering hiding the names of enemy team players to stop people from using noobmeters
- there is enough single core PC users on RU market to justify removing a feature that makes the game not work on such PC'sm former Soviet republics and Eastern Europe has many players with single core processors who are playing and paying regularily and making the new sound engine for HD client only is not an option as maintaining two sound systems at the same time is too costly. It will be implemented - just later.
- VK 100.01, VK4503 and tier 7 VK4502B are premiums/event vehicles, not regular tanks
- Havok was shelved (delayed) due to the fact it causes too much client performance loss
As you noticed, dear players, WG EU finally after years managed to translate some materials from Storm. The translation was good (some of the "juicy" parts where Storm calls old players "oldfags" are of course censored) - here's a couple of Storm's reaction to that session.
- Storm is not personally responsible for the artillery balance
- the "3 caliber rule" cancellation for heavies won't come in 10.0, it's not read
- Object 430 will be buffed, soon
- crew will be reworked, the new crew system will resemble the WoWs system
- new camouflages will be added in the future, it is possible the Hungarian tanks will get Hungarian colors
- 10.0 will not bring new camouflages, but it will bring crew skill bonuses to existing ones
- the reasons for the crew rework plan are the following: it's inconvenient to move the crews around, there are always "leftover" crewmen stuck in barracks, there is no variability in crew skill grind (everyone is grinding the same skills), some crewmembers are also much less important than others skill-wise
- the main topic of 2016 development will be "fixing the painful WoT issues" - the crew system is one of them and will definitely be changed but there is no finalized list of what issues will be fixed in 2016
- it's possible that the crewmembers (ladies, the Rudy crew etc.) will stay visually, only they perks will be removed and rebalanced
- all these changes are still in the state of ideas, even the initial concept was not made yet
- Merkava prototypes would be suitable for WoT, but Mk.1 has too much armor - there are no concrete plans for an Israeli branch, it's simply "possible"
- according to Storm it's now possible (allowed) to implement composite armor to WoT (as layers of regular armor without the increased effectiveness against HEAT shells)
- 10.0 will NOT bring new sounds or motion physics
- two branches will come in 2016: Swedish branch and French heavies
- Quality Assurance has nothing to do with whether imbalanced tanks end up in the game
- the last major arty nerf not only didn't improve the artillery situation, it brought some negative effects with it to boot. The future major arty overhaul will be "elegant" and will come all at once to solve the arty issues in the long run.
- the video where the developers have shown the new sounds and told that the sounds would come in 10.0 - according to Storm the devs were overeager and didn't say it correctly, for now the new sound engine engine is eating too much processor power

Škoda T 50 (CZ tier 9) Screenshots
Hello warriors,
here are the screenshots of the upcoming tier 9 as published by Wargaming. Yes, that's the "fake" vehicle from the tree. Funnily enough, according to Wargaming description, the vehicle had a mock-up built... :)

Not much today. Check this picture out:
This is the comparison of the 10.0 render range - on the left you can see the old render range which was a 1000 meter side square - on the right, the circle and what will the players see from now on (green) instead of previous (red).
- Waffenträger E-100 will be replaced in 2016
- in 10.0, the creation of dynamic platoon will be announced by a voice (much to the annoyance of some players)

10.0 Armor Changes
Hello Warriors,
"TheMostComfortableTanker" from wotlabs made a nearly complete list of the armor changes for the 9.10 patch, RNG blessings to him.
- Turret ring is 100mm thick now (120mm at the front) with 40mm of spaced armor around it.
- UFP is 120mm thick now and MG and driver window weakspots are gone.
- Track armor is no longer a solid blob and sticks true to where the wheels and tracks are.
- Random 30mm spot on the roof for the driver's hatch went bye-bye.
- LFP buffed from 25° to 30°, UFP nerfed from 32° to 30°.
- Mantlet and gun don't quite cover as much as they did prior.
- Driver and MG weakspots removed, but the 60mm part on the rear hull is now 50mm.
- UFP nerfed from 31° to 30°, LFP buffed from 21° to 30°.
- 30mm zone for engine deck now covers more, ended about when it's under the very rear of the turret.
- Mantlet shape is more flat for the 85mm and there is less overlap between the mantlet and turret armor.
- MG weakspot on the rear of the turret is removed on both turrets.
- Turret front slope buffed from 11° to 19°.
- Most periscopes removed from the hitbox on both turrets.
- The stock turret front slope is buffed from 16°-11° to 19°.
- Stock turret rear is thinner overall, though mostly 90mm nominal instead of 129mm-50mm. HOWEVER, the mantlet is 201mm thick at its best going down to 60mm where there is overlap instead of being a solid 250mm.
- Overmatch roof now is more like the IS-3, reaching down to the mantlet instead of being mostly around the hatches. That spot is 30mm now instead of 40mm, so most mediums can autopen that spot too.
- Flat parts of the side hull above the spaced armor and the flat part right behind where it starts is now 120mm thick instead of 80mm.
- Frontal pike may be a little more angled, but the LFP remains untouched.
- Notches in armor for the driver viewports are gone, but there's a small "flat" part where the two slopes join on the pike.
- Turret ring is much smaller and is 250-200mm instead of 148mm.
- Sloped side armor is now at 64° instead of 67°.
- Track hitbox is no longer a solid blob.
- The top turret mantlet overall is thinner, but it's still going to stop pretty much anything. The armor behind it is 250mm instead of 201mm, not that it will really change anything either.
- The loaders hatch is no longer sloped at all.
- The turret itself is stronger, most notably that the flat parts on the front are either 270-220mm, instead of just being 201mm. The 148mm zone on the turret side is now 201mm. The 40mm part on the roof is more rounded now, leading to it taking up an overall smaller area.
- The bump for the gunner's sight on the roof is flattened out.
- Small 70mm thick parts on UFP removed.
- Autobounce plate is now 15-10mm instead of 35-25mm. The 15mm are where the spare tracks are. - Hull roof is 10mm thick now for the most part instead of 8mm. The opposite happened for the stock turret.
- Stock turret cupola is now 30mm instead of 30-22mm.
- Front part of the "turret ring" is now 25mm instead of 30mm.
- Mantlet is now 50mm thick instead of 25mm and the armor above and below it is 50mm instead of 30mm.
- Spaced armor to the sides of the mantlet are now 10mm instead of 22mm.
- Top turret is no longer a clusterf**k of different armor thicknesses.
- The armor from the viewports on the side no longer stick out on the hitbox.
- The side armor was nerfed from 25mm to 20mm though the rear was increased from 10mm to 20mm.
- The turret face is now 30mm instead of 50mm.
- Mantlet is 30mm instead of 25mm.
- Indents are added to the side hull for the suspension. I can't get a good picture of them since there's too much in the way for me to do it. It's fairly minor though, and the times it does do anything will be fairly rare I think.
- Autobounce plate loses the random 15mm hatch on it.
- View ports are just as thick as the surrounding armor, not thinner.
- Armor hole behind the mantlet on the top turret now aligns better with where it should be, plus it's a little thinner.
- Two random 15mm thick triangles on the stock turret roof made as thin as the rest of the roof.
- LFP is 50° instead of 48°.
- The very top part of the LFP is now 150mm too.
- Side hull is now sloped at 25° instead of 26°-27°.
- Rear hull is sloped at 30° instead of 26°.
- Extra sloped parts on the UFP for the periscopes to look over are now slightly smaller.
- Stock turret cupola is now 100mm at best with the sloped part being 60mm instead of it being a 150mm hunk.
- The bump on the turret side for the cupola on the stock turret is now 90mm instead of 80mm.
- Front of stock turret ring is 100mm now instead of 80mm.
- Random 140mm part on the top turret's side near the turret ring is gone, though a lot of areas on the side are now 100mm thick from spare tracks.
- The armor behind the mantlet now looks like a ball, with an overall smaller area being a 0 armor hole.
- Armor behind the mantlets is now flat, but the hole in the armor for the MG is gone and the cannon hole is smaller.
- The 46mm weakspot on the MG mantlet is weaker now.
- Front plate is now a little more sloped between the flat area near the suspension and the autobounce area by the driver window.
- The bumps by the hull view ports are no longer bumps, but 50mm thick now.
- Tracks add an extra 5mm where they are.
- Driver window and the one by it are both 22° now instead of one being 19° and the other at 29°.
- Rear hull is now sloped 5° less than before on both the upper and lower halves.
- LFP is now 50° instead of 45°, plus the very top part of the LFP is 150mm thick.
- Extra sloped parts on the UFP for the driver and radioman periscopes are less wide, though the driver one now gives you a tiny sport sloped at 75°.
- Hull floor near the front is 40mm now instead of a solid 25mm.
- Superstructure rear is 10° instead of 5°.
- Spare tracks cover a few areas on both sides of the superstructure, though dunno how thick they're supposed to be since they're 270mm thick now.
- Bump on the superstructure front is now pretty much all 150mm thick instead of half being 80mm. - Superstructure front is now at 15° instead of 11°.
- Mantlet is 250mm-210mm thick instead of 240-150mm, meaning you still won't be penned there.
- Superstructure roof is 45mm instead of 40mm now.
- MG weakspot on UFP is gone and the sideskirts went from 16mm to 5mm.
- 35mm door on the rear hull is removed.
- Side hull is at 30° instead of 32°-27°.
- Hull floor near the front is 25mm instead of 30mm.
- Hole behind the mantlet doesn't go as far up, but it does go further down.
- The dip in the superstructure for the mantlet is now a mere 30mm that can be seen head-on.
- 180mm part for the gun mount on the superstructure is now 150mm, though is better sloped here than is was before, meaning it is either the same or better.
- Superstructure front is sloped one degree less, but some of the 150mm part leaks over to the side now.
- The 120mm thick mount for the mantlet is a better shape. I cannot quite decide if the mantlet is better or worse now. The thicker parts don't cover as much, but it also looks like it may have a little better coverage. Either way, it doesn't change much.
- Cannon breach on the top turret is much smaller.
- Minor changes to angling on the top turret.
- Very lower front plate is now at 2° instead of 36°.
- MG is no longer thicker than the autobounce plate.
- Driver and radioman windows are now as thick as the UFP, not 3mm thinner.
- Hull roof is 9.5mm instead of 13mm now.
- 16mm sloped area on the rear of the engine deck is 25.4mm now.
- Track coverage of the side hull is slightly improved.
- All 25mm parts on the tank are now 25.4mm, meaning that they can now autobounce 76mm guns.
- Bumps on LFP for the drive wheels are now 2mm thicker.
- The sloped part on the stock turret roof is 13mm instead of 16mm now.
- The front plate on the cupola is 38.1mm now instead of 25mm.
- Pistol ports on the turret sides are no longer 5mm thinner than the rest.
- Bump behind mantlet is now 19.1mm, though the 0 armor hole seems smaller.
- I can't get the top turret armor model to load, but the mantlet no longer has a 51mm zone, just the 38mm and 25mm ones.
- Front hull slope is worse, though the side is sloped a little better.
- The upper half of the side slope is now 26.9mm instead of 32mm.
- Rear hull is 31.7mm now instead of 25mm.
- The space between the two hatches on the front hull is now 19mm thick instead of 32. Same for the hatches themselves.
- Tracks are no longer a single blob.
- Hull side armor behind the tracks is now 33.3mm thick instead of only 25mm.
- Stock turret front has a slightly inferior slope, though most of it is now 63.5mm instead of 51mm.
- The 32mm spaced armor by the mantlet with nothing behind it is now 63.5mm.
- Pistol ports on the turret sides are now 31.7mm like the rest of the side, not thinner.
- Sloped part for the MG sticking out of the roof is now 12.7mm, not 32-25mm. The 37mm is no longer stupidly long.
- Top turret front has a better shape, plus it's 52.3mm there instead of 51mm.
- The sides and mount for the mantlet are 41.2mm instead of 38mm.
- The front half of the turret roof is now 19mm instead of 25mm.
- Turret ring is 38.1mm instead of 32mm.
- Mantlet is a lot smaller and has less area overlapping the turret face compared to what's covering the 0 armor hole.
- The mantlet for the 6 pounder is still as big as it was prior though, maybe bigger.
- All the bumps on the turret roof for hatches and optics have 41.2mm zones where they rise up.
- Bump between the driver and radioman hatches now blend into the UFP, but this really only means the UFP covers some spots that were just hull roof.
- UFP buffed from 52° to 54°. LFP from 47°-41° to 53°-49° with the bumps for the front wheel there going from 15°-75° to 36°-72°.
- The lower half of the rear hull now is a 51mm plate at a 62° downwards slope instead of being two stepped 51mm plates.
- The area where the driver wheel attaches to the hull is no longer part of the hull as it is now.
- The entire side is now 76mm, instead of all of the side after the turret ring being 51mm. It can legitimately sidescrape and not be auto penned by 155mm + guns.
- Turret front is now 203.2mm instead of 178mm, though it doesn't quite cover as much. The difference there is made up with a 139.7mm area.
- The area behind the mantlet is still 178mm, though the innermost part of that area is 228.6mm.
- The edges of the turret roof are no longer 102mm thick, but the area behind the periscope on the turret front is now 228.6mm.
- The cupola is no longer a viable target for anything at all, though there is still a small 51mm bit poking out of the top.
- A lot of the 75mm gun is changed from gun hitbox to spaced armor.
- LFP changes the same as the M3 stuart, though the autobounce plate is 15.9mm.
- Superstructure rear is 25.4mm now instead of 32mm.
- Vision slit for the driver no longer creates a bump.
- The 32mm area no longer goes farther down the side than the superstructure does.
- Superstructure floor above the tracks is 6.4mm instead of 13mm.
- Sloped part of superstructure front is 14° now instead of 10°.
- Tracks don't cover as much of the side.
- Engine deck is 9.5mm instead of 13mm.
- The flat part of the turret front is 30mm instead of 40mm, with the rest of the turret front and sides being 20mm now.
- The "bubble" on the bottom of the turret covering where it goes up and down remains 40mm.
- Cupola is a solid 20mm instead of the top being 10mm and the bottom being 40mm.
- Sloped parts on the top of the turret are 30mm.
- Spaced armor for the range finder is a lot smaller, but it is also only 40mm thick instead of 80mm for where you can still deal damage.
- Tumors seems to be shaped better. There is now more 120mm zone on the superstructure where the roof starts.
- Tracks now are no longer a single blob, but the amount of side armor they cover hardly changes any.
- Sideskirts cover more now, and a part of the hull is now just sideskirts like it's supposed to be.
- Stowage bins on the hull by the turret are no longer part of the hitbox.
- Cupola on the top turret is now 9mm instead of mostly 14mm.
- Hull front radically changed. Check the pic below.
- Bump on hull roof in front of turret flattened some and no longer has the 70mm section.
- 70mm step between the sloped hull roof and the rest is now 47mm.
- A lot of the mantlet went from 75mm to 70mm.
- Cupola now looks like a wedding cake instead of being a cylinder.
- 55mm part of the rear hull buffed from 24° to 30°. 20mm part of the rear hull changed from 77° to 72°.
- Around the bottom edge of the turret, there's a tiny 25mm zone you can hit now.
- Turret face shape changed a little.
- Stock turret cupola is pretty tall now too.
- Spare tracks add an extra 5mm on the hull roof in front of the turret.
- Rather minor mantlet shape change on the top turret.
Resume from "Rexxie" for those who cant be bothered:
JT88 got megabuffed: Beyond the top speed increase, my previous worries about the lower plate have been dispelled. Not only is the lower plate unchanged, but the tank actually got tougher. That lower plate is stronger (probably to the point where it's not much weaker then the UFP), the superstructure got stronger, and you can't overmatch the superstructure roof anymore. Badass. Still, this feels a little ridiculous. Is it really fair to buff the JT88 that hard?
T34 also got megabuffed. Tracks on the frontal armor now make its UFP considerably better, as well as also getting a small UFP angle increase. Beyond that, the tank is both better at hulldown and better at sidescrape - the cupola is going to be incredibly hard to hit, and that 50mm rear side armor that plagues all T29 series tanks is going to be gone.
JP2 was nerfed. The mantlet and the area around it will be much less reliable.
"TheMostComfortableTanker" from wotlabs made a nearly complete list of the armor changes for the 9.10 patch, RNG blessings to him.
U.S.S.R
KV-220
- Turret ring is 100mm thick now (120mm at the front) with 40mm of spaced armor around it.
- UFP is 120mm thick now and MG and driver window weakspots are gone.
- Track armor is no longer a solid blob and sticks true to where the wheels and tracks are.
- Random 30mm spot on the roof for the driver's hatch went bye-bye.
- LFP buffed from 25° to 30°, UFP nerfed from 32° to 30°.
- Mantlet and gun don't quite cover as much as they did prior.
KV-1
- Beak between the autobounce plate and the LFP is now 110mm on the LFP and 65mm on the autobounce plate. Was 115mm on both before.- Driver and MG weakspots removed, but the 60mm part on the rear hull is now 50mm.
212A
- Track hitbox is more detailed, meaning it covers less area. Handy for HESH and big HE.
IS-8/T-10
- Stock turret frontally is overall a little tougher, most notably that the cupolas are smaller.
Germany
Marder 38(t)
- Untouched other than the fact that the 10mm circle on the rear hull is 15mm thick now like the rest of it.Sturmpanzer I Bison
-A few small parts of the hitbox got removed, but nothing that will really change anything at all.G.Pz. Mk. VI (e)
- Rear hull flattened out on the lower half and now has a lot more of it only covered by 6mm.Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) n.A.
- View ports are now as thick as the surronding armor, not thinner.- Small 70mm thick parts on UFP removed.

- The side armor was nerfed from 25mm to 20mm though the rear was increased from 10mm to 20mm.
- The turret face is now 30mm instead of 50mm.
- Mantlet is 30mm instead of 25mm.
Wespe
- 35mm zone from spare tracks on the LFP.VK 20.01 (D)
- Spaced armor on hull roof in front of turret is removed.- Indents are added to the side hull for the suspension. I can't get a good picture of them since there's too much in the way for me to do it. It's fairly minor though, and the times it does do anything will be fairly rare I think.
Pz.Kpfw. II
- UFP is a solid 30mm instead of 30-55mm.- Autobounce plate loses the random 15mm hatch on it.
- View ports are just as thick as the surrounding armor, not thinner.
- Armor hole behind the mantlet on the top turret now aligns better with where it should be, plus it's a little thinner.
- Two random 15mm thick triangles on the stock turret roof made as thin as the rest of the roof.
Tiger II
- UFP is now at 51° instead of 50°.- LFP is 50° instead of 48°.
Pz.Kpfw. S35 739 (f)
- Sideskirts and turret are now rounded more.- Armor behind the mantlets is now flat, but the hole in the armor for the MG is gone and the cannon hole is smaller.
Jagdtiger 8,8 cm
- Hull MG weakspot disappeared.
Jagdpanther II
- LFP is 35° now instead of 50°, but gets a little 100mm spot the same way the KT and JT88 did.
United States

JT88 got megabuffed: Beyond the top speed increase, my previous worries about the lower plate have been dispelled. Not only is the lower plate unchanged, but the tank actually got tougher. JP2 was nerfed. The mantlet and the area around it will be much less reliable.

28.9.2015 Q&A
Not much going on today - just that patch 10.0 (former 9.11) will according to supertester leakers be delayed due to a large number of bugs found in it. There is no current ETA on that.
Also, in random news, Wargaming started negotiations with Gazprom Media, a powerful holding on very good terms with current Russian leadership and the owner of several media platforms.

Extra 10.0 Armor Screenshots
Hello Warriors,
things are going very slowly here as my PC is giving its last breath. New one will arrive on Thursday and I should be able to hijack Jingles PC while he is gone attending some WoWS stuff.
Sick twice and now this, September hasn't been kind, extremely frustrated but still doing my best, for you. Thank you for the support you gave me last week by the way!
Anyways, have some extra screenshots from the IS-8 (T-10) upcoming armor changes (before/after):

August Resume & Contributors
Hello Warriors,
August Resume & Contributors is here at last, where I write what this one been up to and complain about "mein kampfs"! And I warn you, its a long article, been devouring books in English and I'm quickly becoming more fluid with this language. Also, my PC is "motor kaput" currently and Jingles is recording videos at the moment which means, this page is the only thing I can talk to right now.
Anyways, RSR is 6 months old!
In the first half of August nothing really happened, all normal as usual, wake up and be greeted by the cats who always come close and wait religiously to be petted as soon as I start doing the first slow stretches inside my blanket cocoon. I get up, feed the Mistresses of Doom, make some coffee (or Jingles makes me some, bless him, he's great!), work for the rest of the day and prepare stuff for what is to come.
After invitation, spent a couple hours in the Fractured Space studio where I got to meet their team and James Brooksby the CEO who is a very nice and down to Earth lad. Really enjoyed seeing on what and how they were working on the game, which is amazing. And also on how much of a geek heaven the studio is, they have an amazing collection of figures, board games and videogames! For those who never heard of this game, its a PVP oriented Sci-fi game where you pilot ships, each with very different abilities to fight other players, capture resources and then finally take control of the entire map.
Been playing Fractured Space since then, it has done me good to keep my mind away from tanks.
Oh and by the way, I have to thank James Brooksby for the Attack Wing Star Trek ships he gifted, I will be placing them around my Borg cube once I manage to light it up (livestream lair decoration).
On 15 August gathered with the Friends of The Tank Museum and Ed Francis. Don't think I ever mentioned them here before, for those unaware its a paid membership group (not expensive!) who receives extra benefits for helping and supporting The Tank Museum. Click on the link above for more information, its worth. :)
We went to visit REME Bordon, who had a little bit of everything, mostly ARVs but also a couple tanks, trucks, etc. Sadly the place is going to close and because we were the last allowed in our host was a good sport and gave us unlimited access to their entire collection.
It was nice that for the first time in the UK I was allowed around militaria without someone breathing on my neck with health & safety rules. I don't mind a H&S brief before getting my hands dirty but it does get tiring when someone follows you and keeps on repeating "watch your step", "mind the gap", "careful with your head", "here hold my hand", *peeks on your WC stall* "Make sure you clean your butt thoroughly!"... ok, I've exaggerated on that last one!
Four months in the UK and this has been the the only thing I'm still struggling to adapt to. I understand that people are just doing their jobs and are annoyed as I am but noticed that the being a woman conundrum makes things worse. Gladly, been learning to be let off easy, if I'm not given a brief then will give it instead to my assigned babysitter by kindly explaining "Look, I understand that this is not a amusement park and these are machines made to kill people, will be careful and please treat me like a dude, would be very nice if you did, I'm no damsel in distress!" In short words, if you are a woman who is starting to be around tanks make yourself look like a tank pro and a lesbian, the manly type, to ward off the assigned babysitter-dude!
Was a very pleasant and enriching day, got to familiarize and explore the inside of so many vehicles!
Also apparently earned respect points among real tankers Ive been meeting with after getting stuck in a Centurion ARV Mk II but there is nothing glorious about this story! This one, very "smart" as usual after inspecting the driver's compartment, which by the way is the most comfortable seat ever, seriously, even more comfy than a expensive computer chair or car seat! Whoever drove it, he had it good! Climbed to the top and saw a very tantalizing Commander's hatch and dropped down through it without thinking much, when I was done and decided to get out (remind that I'm a short lass) looked up to the hatch and down searching for some footing and uh...oh...
The vehicle has no footing to get out, could reach the Commander's hatch with my hands but had no space to pull my body through, the escape hatch in the back was the only alternative. Opened it and curses! The engine bay is open!
Ed Francis, who was on the vehicle at the time having a conversation with another lad started hearing scrabbling noises inside the Centurion ARV and his curiosity piqued, he found me hanging by half on the escape hatch, with no footing inside and trying to not fall into the engine bay on the outside. Laughing, he offered help but overrun with pride ("I refuse to be damsel in distress!"- Kept telling myself) denied the offer, he snatched my camera and had fun capturing the moment.
It was nice to meet the other "Friends", Ed and I had a wholly engrossing conversation with one gentleman in particular, a engineer who is restoring a tank on his own and went there to take some measurements of a model, its amazing what you can learn from real knowledgeable people!
Hum, talking about "knowledgeable people"... You know what rustles my jimmies? People who think they know more than others and make themselves look like scum sucking, lying, weasel minded smegheads to those around.
Had the opportunity to be inside a Chieftain Mk XI, which by the way, I was the only one authorized. The REME Bordon host kindly authorized access to the tank after Ed asked him so I could start familiarizing myself with the insides of real tanks, note, this was my first time inside a MBT! I immediately started making the best of it, exploring and making questions like a 3 year old to be assured of everything. Its preferable asking to someone who has the knowledge than making a wrong assumption of things and because will be driving tanks in the future, want to be sure of everything while absorbing as much information as possible. Its something I've been taking very serious after accepting the offer.
The smeghead in particular, climbed up the tank without authorization with his girlfriend, who he clearly dragged there (her face wasn't the one of amusement) and started chuckling at every question I made. This is the exact type of person I've been told someone like David Fletcher would...
The interior condition of this Chieftain Mk XI unfortunately wasn't the best whatsoever and although I'm a newbie in real tank matters, do know very well what asbestos is supposed to look like, something I became familiarized with way before I got to be in this type of vehicles just like I learned trigger discipline before ever got my hands on a gun/rifle! Like Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian Commander of the International Space Station wrote on his "An astronaut guide to life on Earth" book I'm the type of person who likes to acquire information for the "Just in case".
Dust particles started lifting in the MBT and the panel I spotted that had asbestos didn't looked very good, no longer felt comfortable inside and said to Ed: "Look there is asbestos inside and things are getting dusty, its not safe" after Ed saw what I was talking about he agreed and I got out. The smeghead, thinking I was just a girl afraid of getting dirty chuckled once more and got in the tank while rummaging and lifting dust like a pig searching for truffles. I just walked away with this in my mind "I bet you wont be chuckling the day you get mesothelioma on your testicles..."
Its just sad when one's ego can get them hurt, my mom, a badass who is way sharper with words commented "Its called natural selection, my dear". She is right.
I'm very blessed to be surrounded by historians and real tank connoisseurs, been learning a great deal from them and on my own but would never act like a prick towards someone who just started getting into tanks and I mean real ones, not just the pixelated that we play in games.
Often look up to David Fletcher, who I admire and have categorized as the epitome of tank knowledge and realize how far I am from anything close but... I am so, so much eager to learn! And hey, even he can get wrong, it just demonstrates how much about the subject there is!
And it just crossed my mind, on how this man is respected, how I never heard him boasting about himself and how he doesn't need a teleprompter to talk about tanks. Even on his "Tank Chats" series he very short and awkwardly presented himself once, and that was it. This is how you separate the good from the loot. I'm not throwing "shade" at anyone in particular here but there is far too many nowadays calling themselves tank gurus and specialists who are incapable or saying something without a teleprompter that is crammed with wikipedia copy-pasta.
"Any man who must say, "I am the king" is no true king." - Tywin Lannister
Is just a matter of time that I meet my favorite tank story teller Grandpa and people close to him have said that when someone that wants his attention is presented, he calculates top to bottom, with his "x-ray vision" and "I've walked far too long on this planet to waste my time" powers. If there is one person who will know the difference between someone who "Hey its a tank it makes pew pew!" and someone who really wants to learn, its him. I should be okay but this actually makes me feel anxious...want to please the tank senpai and become kōhai!
And talking about feeling anxious, oh boy...On the 20 August got out of Europe for the first time and spent a vacation week in Manhattan, 'Merica with The Mighty Jingles.
Because we were staying in a expensive area and had posh places to visit I was required to scrub up before the travel.
We went to the shopping center, supposedly to just have some food but he decided suddenly to "kill 2 bunnies with one stick" and took me shopping. I'm the type of woman who despises going shopping and who has spent far too much time with machines, sports and geekery. Even as a little girl, the only reason I owned Barbies was because my "Biker Rats" and G.I. Joes needed some "hoes" (I apologize for the word but couldn't miss such a poetic opportunity!) I had completely disconnected from my feminine side...
As I was being presented with dresses, skirts, and pink (oh my lord, pink! *cringe*) my brain overloaded and started having a panic attack, made a bad excuse and rushed out the store we're in. Needed a moment to regain logic and said to myself "You agreed to go and this is a step required. If you don't do this for yourself, at least do it for him". Jingles kept on insisting on a couple dresses that I believed would make me look like a very British wooden board on her 50s but resigned myself to it all. Took the dresses to the dressing room. I put the first one on, never looking at the mirror, feeling like a defeated cat, after all the zippers were up I lift my face to the mirror and...Wait a minute!
"I don't know who you are lady and where those curves just came from but me like it! Woof! Woof!"
Sneaked around the corner from the dressing room with a smirk and asked Jingles, "Do you have more of those brilliant fashion advice's?" His eyes widened.
Before the vacation some of my North American livestream viewers begged me to not misjudge their country from what I would experience in New York but this one has lived once in a touristic area for nearly a decade and knows how to filter the tourists out and enjoyed what I saw.
Usually I avoid big cities because people tend to act like complete jerks and things are way too messy and noisy but in New York saw kindness where less expected and the city is busy yes but orderly and noisy in a vibrant living way, I found myself wanting to live there.
Jingles and I went on a geek crusade on this vacation.
At Times Square we visited the biggest Toys "R" Us in the world. The shop was some worthy selling items but I got out with 3 simple mini figures, a Gorn from Star Trek, Mr. Hamm from Toy Story and a Cinema Gremlin.
In the upper floor, they have arcade games where you can collect tickets to redeem a prize and I was determined to get something for him, searched around for a machine that would require real skill, something that would need fast reflexes (this one had her reflexes trained while competing on athletics) and found just what wanted. He handed me all the coins and after calculating how fast the arcade machine computed information started acing bonus after bonus levels. At the end, I stand gloriously while the machine just kept on spitting tickets for a couple minutes. Jingles got a dinosaur toy.
We also went to the Midtown Comics and my goodness! Its a paradise! They have a little bit of everything and felt like a kid in a candy store. While browsing their comic book selection found myself giving a Star Trek lecture to other fellow geeks and a staff worker and went as far as speaking Klingon! Couldn't go away without a Spock and Worf bust figures and a DC Comics Catwoman bombshell Satin Robe!
We spent some time away in New Jersey, and visited Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash Comic Book store where the "Comic Book Men" show is recorded, except for Kevin Smith all the cast was accounted for. Jingles completely fangirled like never had seen, I almost started giving some distance away like "I do not know this man"! Also one of the cast, Ming Chen didn't made things easier while eyeing me up, kept thinking "aww, not this again! It was enough when I caught Sylvester McCoy looking at my derriere at ComicCon London while signing autographs!"
This store has a very peculiar taste, these guys sell old school comics and figures, don't expect to find much of Star Trek/Wars or Tomb Raider there. I still managed to get out with a Star Trek "Planet of the Apes" (The Primate Directive) and Watchmen comics although.
I love how North Americans embrace the geek side! (See what I did there?) Numerous times I got stopped on the middle of the streets by complete strangers who just wanted to compliment my Batman bag, or my attire (DC Batgirl, Spock, etc shirts) and ask where I got it. This never ever happened over here in EU and I find it... fascinating.
I also love how the food in the US plays mind games with you! Contrary to EU small portions, NA portions after a while are like a bully!
NA Food: "You cant eat me!"
Rita: "Yes I can, shut up!"
NA Food: "Look at all these fatty bits, bet you wont handle it"
Rita: "Oh lord! Eating Hamster mode is required! Activate!"
NA Food: "I see the will is strong on you, European Padawan! But you still have the other sandwich half to finish, bet you cant..."
Rita: "I can and I will! Super Sayan Eating Hamster transformation!
NA Food: *Shrieksss* "Who are you little girl! Your eating levels are over 9000! No! Stop it! You cant! How is this possible!
Rita swallows the last chunk of food defeating NA Food and rolls her way out...
And talking about food in the US, what the hell is going on with pet stores/veterinary clinics right next to Asian food places? I don't want to stereotype here, but every time I saw these, they were together!
And what Rita does after arriving from another continent? She takes a rest right? Wrong!
Two days after being back in the UK I flew once more to Czech Republic! Which, I will be writing on the next Resume & Contributors article!

59-Patton For Sale
Hello Warriors,
its time to steal grandma's silverware set to help Wargaming EU reach its monthly sales quota before Serb ships them to labor work on his lunar base!
The 59-Patton is being sold on EU until 1 October 07:00 CEST (UTC+2) for ONLY49.99 euros!
Package includes:
The tank is not too shabby, had some fun playing with it but is definitely not worth the price.
I would love seeing EU making an extra effort than just drop a tank each week in a expensive bundle with extras we don't need and instead give us more options and fairer deals! NA who is currently also selling a 59-Patton bundle for a large price at least gave their players missions for those who purchase the tank. The rewards are not that special but at least its something! Why we, over EU cant even have that?
Why not sell the Premium tanks without the extras for a smaller price?
I've calculated all September's "Collector’s Gem of the Week" bundle prices and ended up precisely at 188.42 Euros. Now, lets make it 200€ to ease down a bit (and because we get so many 50€ bundles) and multiply it with the 12 months of the year to see how much WG EU wants their spending costumers to give annually. Holy Jesus, 2400€...That is nearly 5 minimum salaries in my native country!
Wargaming is definitely losing potential customers by milking it too hard! How their marketing department cant see this is beyond my comprehension...
AgingJedi, a fellow WG's Community Contributor has also made a pricing rant on the tank/ship packages which he makes some very good points I couldn't agree more with:
Go to 7:30 min if you don't want to see the battle.
What is your opinion on this?

Project EMIL: The Swedish “heavy tank” project
Author: sp15
Before we start, yes i know this is effectively the third time I'm revisiting this topic. But with this article I wanted to give you the full story behind the development of the "kranvagn". I'm not going to list a lot of technical specs here so if you want those take a look at my earlier articles on the subject:
During the early 1950s the Swedish army was facing the obsolescence of its tank force most of which was still composed of 37mm armed light tanks. And with the cold war heating up in Korea the Swedish military issued a demand for acquisition of a new medium tank. This would lead to the Start of Project EMIL, a project that would ultimately prove too ambitious for its day.
Background
There had been attempts to acquire a new tank for the Swedish army stretching back to 1944 when the army had called for two types of heavier tanks to be developed. The first of which was an up-gunned Strv m/42 with a new turret and a new 30 ton tank design with heavier armor and armament called the Pricken. But with the end of ww2 the development of the 30 ton design was discontinued and only a prototype of the modified Strv m/42 was built and tested unsuccessfully in 1946. Instead Sweden went looking abroad for its new tank. In 1946-47 attempts were made to acquire the Sherman firefly from the British army however due to complications mostly concerning the availability of spare parts meant that the deal was called off and only one Firefly and a number of other Sherman variants were acquired for testing purposes.
But Swedish tank development had not stopped. Landsverk who had designed and built tanks during WW2 was working on a number of export projects at the time. In addition they were also working on a 30 ton tank destroyer/medium tank for the Swedish army. However in 1947 when Landsverk was gearing up to produce the prototype the army command suddenly decided to discontinue the development of all tank designs over 20 tons. Instead in 1949 development was shifted to one of Landsverk’s 20 ton light tank designs. Ironically enough the project was terminated when the army command came to the conclusion that a tank with a weight limit of just 20-25 would be of little value against contemporary medium tanks.
In 1950 after a series of failed attempts to purchase Centurion or the M46 Patton the army decided that it would start development of a Swedish replacement for the Strv m/42 under the name Project EMIL, and trial the AMX 13 light tank. In 1951 the first draft was drawn up for the new tank.
The concept
The EMIL was essentially meant to be a Swedish proto-MBT, it was a design that was to be capable to take on anything it might encounter on the battlefield and still have the mobility required in Swedish terrain. Its firepower would remove the need for dedicated tank destroyers and its armor would help protect it even against heavy tanks. And all this while still being within the weight limit set by the Swedish military command. The chassis would also be used as a basis for a 15cm SPG and a 57mm self propelled anti aircraft gun that was in development at the same time.
The 1951 proposal had been heavily influenced by the AMX 13 and had borrowed the idea of the oscillating turret and cassette autoloader. The turret front was reworked from the French design to allow better protection by extending the lower part connected to the turret ring to create a one big frontal piece instead of the oscillating upper turret part and fixed lower part on the AMX 13 design.
The idea of an autoloading high caliber tank gun had been researched by the Swedish army since before 1950. The thought was that a large caliber gun shooting HEAT ammunition would be able to reach the kind of penetration numbers the army was looking for. And the autoloader would allow rapid re-engaging of an enemy target if the first shot missed. But at the time the idea had been strictly theoretical due to the weight constraints. However with the oscillating turret such a gun could be carried by a much lighter vehicle than a more conventional design.
One of the main requirements of the project was that the tank had to be constructed within the country. This stemmed from experiences from ww2 where Sweden had been cut off from acquiring foreign tanks. That meant that practically all tanks used by Sweden during the war had to be developed and built from scratch, this was a mistake Sweden did not want to repeat.
Development
The development of the vehicle was divided up between three companies. Landsverk who handled development of the hull, implementation of major components, work on the mock up and the hull assembly. Bofors was in charge of the development of the turret, gun, and autoloader mechanism. And SFA was in charge of acquisition and development of the engine. The whole project was estimated to take about 3-5 years from start to finish with the major components worked out and put on paper within a year. But in 1952 there was still questions to be resolved like the engine choice, weight limit and armor thickness. To finalize the requirements for the tank a series of discussions and investigations were held in 1952.
Originally the engine considered for the EMIL project had been a 550hp engine from SFA but in 1952 it was decided that the tank would use a license built American tank engine. Several engines were considered in the range from 500 to 810hp. This lead to the EMIL being split into three different versions with different engines and weight limits. However the different versions all shared the same basic layout. Compared to 1951 vehicle there were several changes which included a reworked suspension, wider tracks, redesigned frontal armor inspired by the IS 3 and a change from welded to a cast design for the rear of the turret.
The lightest model referred to as EMIL alternative 1 (or E1) of was based on the original 1951 requirements. It was estimated to weigh about 32t depending on the armor-thickness and engine chosen. It would also be armed with the same 12cm gun as the 1951 proposal. It was considered in case only the low powered engines could be acquired. The EMIL alternative 2 was the mid-range model, it was bigger and heavier than the E1 with a weight between 34 and 39 ton’s depending on the armor and engine. It was to be equipped with either a 540hp or 665hp engine which would give it a power to weight ratio of 17-20hp/t. Initially this was the preferred model of the tank as it had more upgrade potential than the E1 while still being viable with a Swedish engine. However with the confirmation of the availability of the high power engines the E2 was no longer needed and as with the E1 development was likely discontinued by the end of 1952. Alternative 3 was the heaviest model with a weight between 38 and 42 tons. This version was seen as unrealistic as no Swedish engine was available at the time, but it became the preferred model once the American engines became available. The E3 had the same armament as the E2 model (150mm smoothbore) but was able to have heavier frontal and side armor while still maintaining a high power to weight ratio. In late 1952 the E3 model was chosen for further development over the E1 and E2 and became the basis for all future versions of the EMIL project vehicles.
Complications
In 1953 after having pulled out of negotiations about purchasing the AMX 13 at the last minute after the personal intervention of the commander in chief Sweden purchased the Centurion Mk.3 tank. With the immediate need for a new Swedish medium filled the fate of the Emil project was uncertain. Ultimately it was decided that it should be continued although with decreased priority since the performance of the Centurion was seen as inferior and there was still a need for a better tank in the future.
Shortly after in 1954 Bofors announced they were having serious problems with development of the turret. In particular with the gyro stabilization and the ammunition for the main gun. Earlier on in the project there had been a decision to split the development of the gun and ammunition. Bofors would handle the development of the gun and army ordinance administration would handle the development of the ammunition. As you might imagine this caused all sorts of miscommunications. In turn this meant the development of the HEAT round would not be possible within the promised timeframe and Bofors suggested using APDS rounds or HESH rounds instead. Elsewhere things were going better. SFA had begun testing their own engine for the EMIL project alongside the American engine. This engine exceeded the output of the American one and after some extensive testing it was decided to use the Swedish engine. A series of other changes were also made in 1954 the biggest of which were changes to the turret to improve the gun elevation from -12/+8 degrees to -12/+12 degrees. This would allow better stabilization for the gun. This also increased the turret weight by 3 tons even with a slight armor reduction to for the turret sides.
At the end of 1954 the Emil project was entering a critical phase, with most of the drawing work done and the engine chosen preparations were made for the construction of the first prototype. Originally there were plans to build two prototype hulls to be ready by May-June 1956 with a third chassis following in 1957 for a 15cm SPG project. Instead only one prototype tank chassis was actually finished with the other being reworked for the SPG role. To confuse any potential spy the prototype hull referred to as “Kranvagn” or its shortened version “Krv”. The hulls were used for testing off-road performance and reliability until Bofors could deliver the turrets which was supposed to happen in 1957. In the end Bofors proved unable to develop the main gun. So in 1958 as a last effort to salvage the project it was suggested that a British or French alternative should be considered, later there were even plans to mount the Centurion Mk.10 turret on the Krv chassis as an alternative to the S-tank, but nothing came of it. This and along with the purchase of the Centurion Mk.10 came to mark the final nail in the coffin for Project EMIL.
Legacy
While project EMIL itself ended in failure it did serve as a valuable exercise for the Swedish army. The research that had been done as part of project EMIL became used as a basis for the early development of the S-tank. The “Kranvagn” chassis became one of the earliest proof of concept vehicles for the S-tank and was used to test the hydraulically adjustable suspension. And the SPG version later resulted in the Bkan 1, which was one of the most impressive artillery vehicles for its time. The cancellation of project EMIL would also mark the last time Sweden would consider the idea of a tank heavier than 40 tons until the 1980s.
Today the hull is located in the storage facilities of the Arsenalen museeum. It was recently measured by WG's own historian Yuri Pasholok during a visit earlier this month. Here is a couple of photographs taken of it by Renhanxue (who like me is working on the Swedish wot branch) during the visit.
Next time we will be taking a look at the UDES 03. A project for what was essentially a light tank version of the S-tank.

Not much for today:
- It's possible that the rumors about the delay of 10.0 are just that - rumors;
- T95 TD will not be able to make "U turns" in new motion physics;
- The situation with Chieftain is currently unclear, WG wants to implement it but is not sure how;
- WG is preparing a new launcher in which it will be possible (optional) to download (or not download) various game localizations.

Škoda T-50
Hello Warriors,
here is the upcoming Czechoslovak tier 9 Škoda T-50.
Description:
The TVP medium tank program continued from 1946 to 1950 with a number of proposals made by both Škoda and ČKD. In 1949 the Škoda proposal received the official designation of T 50. The turret was changed from a welded one to a cast one and the vehicle was proposed to be armed with several 100mm gun variants. The main feature of the proposal was its extremely high mobility provided by a proposed 1000hp engine. Several components for this vehicle (such as transmission) were built and tested but a prototype was never completed. In early 1950, the Škoda T 50 and Praga T 51 projects were unified into one, effectively ending the independent medium tank development by Škoda.
